Introduction: Rugby, Rugby is a game played between two teams. It is played for two halfs, each forty minutes. The game has been around since 1872 and is a big part of New Zealand's culture. This book will tell you everything you need to know about rugby plus bonus skills.

History: The first ever game of rugby was played was in 1872, at Raeburn place, Edinburgh. The match was  between Scotland Vs England . Scotland won 10-4.The New Zealand All blacks were founded in 1892. Rugby was invented when a pupil named William Webb Ellis at Rugby school in Warwickshire, England, was playing football (soccer) When he got the pall he picked it up and ran to the other side of the field and his mates tried to stop him by tackling him. The rules of rugby were then written by pupils at rugby school.

Gear:  Boots: Boots are basically running shoes with metal Sprigs on the bottom. Mouth Guards: Mouthguards are a piece of rubber shaped to protect your mouth and are very important to any game of rugby you play. From under sevens up you HAVE to wear a mouthguard. Water bottle: It is important to stay hydrated during a game of rugby, so you should always have a bottle of water nearby.

Kicking: The Goal kick: The goal kick is when you kick the ball over the post for a conversation it counts as 2 points but if it is a drop goal or penalty kick it is 3 points.
How to do A goal kick:First you will need a tee. Find one that suits your style of kicking. place your tee on the ground and line it up with the post, after that you will need to put the ball on the tee and line the ball up with the post run up and strike.
The punt: to do a punt kick you have to kick the ball on the correct part of your shoe/boot, then you kick the ball as hard as you can. The correct part of your boot is the top of your foot. The Drop kick: The drop kick is when you drop the ball onto the ground and then kick it. If you want to kick it high, then drop it and wait an extra second and kick it high. The Bomb Kick: get your foot under the ball then kick the ball high and run to get under it to catch the ball. The Chip kick: Run at your tackler and suddenly kick the ball lightly over the tackler’s head, run around and get the ball to score a try.

Passing: The Long pass: Run up to your tackler as if you’re going to go to ground. At the last second look out to your teammate all the way out on the wing and pass.
Extend your arms and follow through. Smile as your teammate goes through that massive gap and scores. The Short pass: Call out to your teammates to go for the long pass. Make shore the opposition hear you. As you run at the tackler, your teammate should come in and you quickly pass to him and he runs through and scores. The offload: Offloading is a skill used by many great rugby players. Run at your tackler as if you’re going to run at him and crash. Slip the ball out of the back of your hand to your teammate. Tip: (This tactic is useful when you’re near the tryline)

Bonus Skills: Looks: Go to your favourite hairdressers and get your hair cut to perfection. Pick out a good pair of rugby boots that stand out. Get extras like Cool Mouth guards, Wristbands with Your own inspiring message written on it,adjusted outfits.

Running skills: Stepping: First run at your tackler, then when you reach him lunge your foot out to whatever side you are stepping to, and run as fast as you can. The fend:When you’re running and one of the opposition are alongside you, if you’re close enough extend your arm out and push below their shoulders and accelerate.

Rules of the game: You are not allowed to pass the ball forward, or be in front of the ball of play (offside). You are not allowed to tackle someone above the shoulders or lift them in the tackle. If you tackle high or lift, you have a big chance to get a yellow card (staying out of the game for ten minutes without being replaced) You are allowed to kick the ball however you like.  If the ball goes out, whichever team touched the ball last before it went out the other tea gets to have a lineout. When the ball is knocked forward by one team then the referee calls a Scrum. You are not allowed to tackle a player if they don’t have the ball. The All Blacks are the best team in the world

Hope you enjoyed this beginners guide to rugby and we will see you on the field.
